Ten runners in a class six apprentices race over the straight five furlongs so the draw doesn't really matter but I'm always very wary in these races unless something stands out. I might have found one here! Prigsnov Dancer, Divertimenti, Saved My Bacon, Tolly McGuiness have all been known to lead before. Steel City Boy is well weighted at the bottom of the handicap but only comes out second best. Top rated TWILIGHT ANGEL 40/1 (Bet365) who is the fifth possible leader and it might be fast enough to see the rest off for an all-the-way win but as I've already said keep stakes to a low level in apprentice races and at the odds it has to be an each-way bet.
1:10 Southwell - Another class six race and this one is quite poor - only three of them have registered on my charts. There are two possible leaders: Dancing Maite and Synonym, although neither are in my top three. Third top is Amenable, while second top is Lucky Mark. Top ranked is PRINCE OF PASSION 12/1. The statistics about the trainer are quite good but the stable hasn't been among the winners of late, which tempers my confidence. However, I cant let it go without a small each-way wager but I do mean small.
1:40 Southwell - A slightly better class five race with eight runners. Alpha Tauri is my fourth top rated but is the only known front runner in the field so could do better with an uncontested, early lead and could manage to stay in the frame but should find one or two too good. George Fenton is my third top rating and Thorpe Bay is second top and both can track the early leaders or be held up but top rating goes to SHOWTIME STAR 3/1 who has been in good form lately and the stable's statistics are quite good. I'm hoping this one can get a good position from stall two to sit on the rail just behind the possible leader who has stall one and prove the stronger close home.
