Only nine runners with three possible front runners. Desert Strike is one of them and fourth top rated. It has been drawn in stall two so could try to lead all the way.- but it may not get things its own way. Ace Master is third top rated. He has led all the way over seven-furlongs, so won't lose due to a lack of stamina. This could be a fast-run race but there's quite a few spots between the second best and the third top rated. Second top and top weight is Viva Verglas, who is usually held up. Best rated goes to the bottom weight MINISTER OF FUN 8/1 who is only a four-year-old that's only ran twice and its last returned a win over course and distance in a class five maiden. This race is a class four but this gelding has already done the fastest time and could have improvement still to come so it could turn out to be a decent wager. The favourite is Barb's Princess, who has won its last two races and the most recent being over course and distance. Both wins detailed relatively slow times and the six-pound penalty it carries may be too much for it to achieve the hat-trick.
4:55 Kempton - Nine runners with two known front runners. Pearl Noir and Rigolleto who just makes my top four ratings. Classic Pursuits is third top rated and usually it's a hold-up type. Second top rated is the usually held-up New Rich. Top place goes to the bottom weighted INVIGILATOR 10/1 who was tipped by Eric Winner last time out when winning at 20/1. That was a class six race and it has now stepped up to a class five. Whether it's good enough [class-wise] to win this I'm not entirely sure. It's the old age problem of weighing up between speed and class so it will be given as the selection as we know it's in form but the class side of it makes me say keep stakes should be kept to the small size.
SUMMARY: 3:35 Southwell - I'm hoping the twice-raced MINISTER OF FUN 8/1 has got even more improvement to come. Its time when winning its maiden was goods enough to win here but the price just about makes it worthwhile doing an each-way bet as insurance. 4:55 Kempton - It's a murky picture. The best times have been recorded by those lower in the handicap so the question is, can they repeat the times in a better class race. The top figure has come from INVIGILATOR 10/1 who won for us last time out at 20/1 so it doesn't owe us any money and it may be invigorated after that last win. It and can, maybe, take the rise in class in its stride but I would be going each-way at the price even though it's only just about worthwhile. I would suggest low stakes.
