This is the only older horse sprint race of the day and its confined to amateur riders which always puts me on the backfoot when it comes to betting in the race so any stakes will be kept low. There're 16 runners entered so lets hope there's not any non-runners so we get paid out in 4 places in an each way bet, of the 16 entries there's 4 known to lead, any draw bias is in favour of those drawn high, Zipedeedodah is drawn in stall 4 which isn't ideal for front-runner and Sir Geoffrey is drawn stall 11 which would seem to be better but neither of these 2 has done a recorded time over this distance,Frank The Barber is 5th top rated but with its jockeys allowance it moves to 2nd place, Head Space is 4th best in the race and has a decent draw in stall 13, Excellent Aim is my 3rd top rated from a time recorded last year at Brighton it moves up to 2nd top when you take off this one's jockeys 5lb allowance but its form this year has been way below that standard and I can't see any reason why it should spring back to form in this race, my 2nd top rated is Frangarry who did its best time this year at Yarmouth but is still a maiden after 16 races it can possibly try to lead and stall 16 is the prime draw, Go Amber Go is my top rated and the 4th possible front runner but stall 5 isn't ideal but its best time was done this year at Chepstow and it has been running fairly well and making the frame lately so it could have every chance here.
SUMMARY: A big field with amateur riders is a nightmare to solve is as usual going to stick with the proven, there's negatives against some of the top rated, Excellent Aim has been woefully out of form, Frangarry is still a maiden which really narrows it down to the 1 runner, GO AMBER GO 10/1 and I would be happier if this front runner had been drawn higher as stall 5 isn't ideal but if it can either get to the front or at least get a good early prominent position it ought to have a decent chance but as I've said being an amateur riders race stakes will be kept low but at least at the price it can be done as an each-way wager.
PS: I have said this numerous times but “PLEASE” check the going before following my ratings as they are not meant to be used on ground that is on the soft side of things but I'm always an optimist and hope it dries out when its given as good to soft the day before the meeting and my advice would be to watch an earlier race from the course if at all possible if not check it out to the best of your ability.
No bet if soft going is in the description.
