Eric's Weekly Round Up: Mazzini 7/1

Thursday, 6 March 2014

A five furlong race with only seven runners - so limits the chances of finding an each way bet with only being two places. Thorpe Bay likes to track the leaders and comes out third on my figures. I'm doubtful its quite good enough to win but a stall one draw will help its chances. Desert Strike can either be held up or track the leader. The Conor Dore's gelding is not in my top three on times so doubt it will be involved in the finish. SOLEMN can track the
leaders or, more importantly, is capable of leading. This nine-year-old may get an uncontested lead and being top of my figures on the old and re-laid surface gives confidence. Hopefully he can lead all the way and I'm very surprised to see you can get 9/1. Megaleka is versatile but I doubt if it will catch the leader. It comes out joint second top rated on times before the course was re-laid. Secret Millionare my prefer a faster surface and on all known form is very unlikely to be involved in the finish. Interchoice Star is a hold up type and is the other horse that comes out joint second on the ratings prior to the re-laying of the course. Your Gifted is another hold up type who comes out second best on recent times after the re-laying but only fourth on times prior to it.

SUMMARY: Its very hard with the times to know what could fill the places but if Solemn gets to the front he should be very hard to catch - hopefully lead all the way. (E.R.I.C.)
