7:30 Southwell Racing Tips (4th October)

SOUTHWELL 7.30

Quite a complex race with form lines over today's course and distance and also over the distance at Wolverhampton and Newcastle and the fact that there doesn't appear to be any known front runner in the field doesn't help matters, the 3yo Prayer Matt has a rating from on turf which would make it my top rating but the horse is still a maiden after 14 races but did make the frame in 6 of those races so might be an each way proposition but whether it can break its duck I doubt it, The Tron 7/1 likes to stay on at the finish but this race might not be run to suit it and the same could apply to Maybe Tonight 6/1, there are others that could be laid but I doubt they will be of value to lay, Khulu is my 2nd top rated using only course and distance ratings since the Tapeta surface was laid here, I will go with backing 2 runners in this race, firstly TOPLIGHT 7/1 who comes out in top spot using either Wolverhampton or Newcastle times and has won 3 times before on the AW, secondly there's COOL SPIRIT 22/1 who comes out in top spot on just course and distance ratings but the stable hasn't had a winner for quite a while now else it might well have been my only selection in this race, without a guaranteed earlier fast early pace my stakes will be kept low.

5:00 Southwell Racing Tips (22nd February)

SOUTHWELL 5.00

EEH BAH GUM is one of two known front running types in this race but time wise it might struggle to stay there for the win but could possibly make the frame if reproducing its best time from 2019.

COOL SPIRIT isn't in my top 3 ratings on this surface from elsewhere but on just course and distance speed figures its my top rated so has to have a chance of winning this race.

BRANDY STATION hasn't really shown much time wise since 2020 but its recent time here gives it an each way chance.

ACES has been in poor form in its 2 races this year and usually runs on at this distance and looks a better prospect when racing over a longer distance I doubt it will be of value to lay.

SAN JUAN doesn't make my top four on my speed figures, it seems to like this course but this is its first run since the surface has been changed but maybe one to lay.

LOUISE TREIZE this horse has good trainer/jockey stats but speed figure wise it needs to improve, its 5th top using other Tapeta tracks and 3rd top on recent c/d speed figures, it races as though further would suit it better but with good stats I'm not sure if I dare lay it unless its a short priced favourite which it might be after winning last time out.

GOSSIP has only poor recent form to its name and I expect it will be an outsider and this race and a big turn-up if it can win this race.

LORNA COLE if i use this ones best time from Wolverhampton last year it comes out top rated but hasn't run here since the change of surface but has to be on my shortlist.

XAMPACHOOCHOO another one with poor recent form and will be a shock if it can win this race and I expect it will be an outsider.

MOVEONUP is the other known front running type in this race and is 2nd top rated on recent course and distance ratings but only 4th on Tapeta ratings from the other 2 courses.

CHARLEMAINE another that I expect will be an outsider and a big shock if it managed to win the race.

SUMMARY: My betting in this race will revolve around Louis Treize who is 3rd and 5th on my 2 speed figure ratings, c/d ratings and overall ratings, and is forecast to be the 9/4 favourite and that price I would be prepared to take the risk and lay it BUT it won last time out and they may have found the key to success for this horse and the good trainer/jockey stats also put me off a bit about laying it, as for the winner I will be looking at 2 horses, COOL SPIRIT 8/1 who is my top rated on c/d times and I like the jockey booking and LORNA COLE 11/2 who is top rated on Tapeta ratings from the other 2 courses and who also has good trainer/jockey stats.

This is a race where my ratings become complicated because the pair at the bottom of the handicap have recorded good speed figures enough to be my top and 3rd top rated and both of them are upped in class to run in this race, Lihou would normally have been one that I backed but this horse seems to be slipping down the handicap and its form from a couple of years ago would be plenty to win this race, I've also got negatives against three more of the runners which leaves me with CAROLINE DALE 7/1 who won in this class 2 runs ago when leading all the way but missed the kick in its last race and never got involved, if leading here it has a decent chance of getting back to winning ways.

12:30 Southwell Racing Tips (11th February)

SOUTHWELL 12.30

There's 3 known front running types in this 9 runner race and it just might be won from the front, I will look to lay Toptime 8/1 who looks a better prospect when racing over further as its poor speed figure at this course shows, another one to lay is Brandy Station who hasn't shown anything worthwhile time wise for quite a while now including when finishing 3rd over this c/d last time out, Miss Seafire 9/1 and Brazen Arrow 4/1 could go well but the former is still a maiden after 8 runs and the latter's best rating comes from back in 2020, COOL SPIRIT 5/2 is my top rated on recent c/d speed figures and could try to lead all the way in this race and could do so but its jockey stats are relatively poor at 7% win ratio so maybe not one to back on its own, BLUELLA 22/1 at the bottom of the handicap is well weighted on its best form both at this course on recent runs and its best from Wolverhampton in 2021 so I will be backing it each way at the price but I will have to back them both to cover the angles.

SOUTHWELL 1.00

Lets start with something to lay in this 12 runner low class stakes race where they all carry the same weight, Louis Treize 5/1 will be trying to stay on at the finish but maybe a bit too late to win this race and isn't in my top 4 ratings but could make the frame if others falter and Captain Ryan 7/1 might not be able to lead and may then struggle so another for the lay list and finally Rhubarb 6/1 who usually stays on at the finish but again maybe too late to get up for the win, as for the winner I will be backing 2 horses, firstly BLACKCURRENT 5/2 who is a known front runner and could prove hard to catch for most of the field as it is my joint top rated on recent times at both Wolverhampton and Newcastle in 2021/22 and has good trainer/jockey stats it is also top rated on recent c/d times, I do have *LORNA COLE 11/2 with a higher rating from 2020 at Wolverhampton and has good trainer stats and usually stays on strongly at the finish over this distance so the 2 bets to cover the angles.

Blackcurrent 5/2 5th -1pt

Lay bet Louis Treize -3.5pts

Total -4.5pts

SOUTHWELL 4.25

This is a poor poor race even for another low class stakes race, Dirchill could be the one to set the pace but has only poor form in its recent exertions and I think it will be an outsider, I'm not sure I could lay anything with any certainty as this race will not take much winning although I doubt Knockabout Queen 15/2 who is a hold up type can reach the front in time to win this race, INDEPENDENCE DAY 8/1 (EW) has a rating from Newcastle last year that would make it 8lb’s clear on my ratings and it did run ok last time out when finishing 3rd and has been found a good opportunity to get back to winning ways but my stakes wont be at full tilt because consistency isn't a keyword at this level and its trainer/jockey stats are nothing to write home about and stall 11 isn't ideal but if in the right mood could win this race cosily so I will be backing it and an each way price would be a bonus.

1:45 Lingfield Racing Tips (30th November)

LINGFIELD 1.45

Only 5 runners for this class 3 sprint, Benny And The Jets may need this run for fitness and is also better when raced over a shorter trip, Global Warning has been in poor form lately and is the outsider in the field, I'm not convinced this surface is the favoured one for Mount Mogan although its best Newcastle rating would make it my top rated, Rovanlemi ha poor jockey stats 0-18 and may need a longer trip which leaves me with TOP BREEZE 11/4 I expect will be the favourite but is capable of leading all the way against today's opposition.

Top breeze 11/4 4th -1pt

NEWCASTLE 3.45

I can see 4 front running types in this field of 14, I've marked 5 down as possible lays but looking at the tissue prices only Captain Corcoran might be of value to do so, Ballyare 9/2 is usually held up for a late run and its best rating from 2020 would make it my 2nd top rated while its best from 2021 would only put it in 4th top spot but isn't any value to do as an each way bet, For Peats Sake 11/1 likes to track the leaders and is 2nd top rated on just 2021 times but 3rd top overall so could be worth an each way punt, Lordsbridge Boy 6/1 is a front running type and has stall 1 which i am not sure is a positive on this straight course while my top rated ROYDMOOR 20/1 (EW) is also a front running type but has stall 10 and if getting to the front ought to prove hard to catch and at the price i would have to go with an each way punt.

NEWCASTLE 5.45

Morty 7/2 has won its last 2 races so is in rude form but I still think its best distance is further than today's and with only one runner in this race known as a front runner this race might not be run to suit it and it would also need to improve on its best Tapeta figure from Wolverhampton, if Sharrabang is a single figure price I would look to lay it as this one wants a longer distance, COOL SPIRIT 12/1 my 4th top rated is the one I think will set the pace to the race and has a good draw in stall 14 so will be dangerous if allowed an easy lead, TOMILY 18/1 comes out 3rd best and usually likes to track the leaders and then run on at the finish, QAARAAT 12/1 also likes to track the leaders and comes out 2nd best using a 2020 c/d speed figure but has been running a stone below that level so far this year, ORIENTAL LILLY 11/2 comes out top rated using a 2019 figure but hasn't run over this c/d since then and is usually held up for a late surge, none of the selections have good trainer/jockey stats or the stable has been out of form recently so I will dutch all 4 of them to a total stake of two points

Oriental Lily 11/2 2nd -0.5pts

NEWCASTLE 6.15 Div I

I will hopefully be able to lay Birdie Bowers 15/2 in this first division, it is still a maiden after 11 runs, has poor trainer/jockey stats and the stable hasn't had a winner for 40 days from 10 runners, I think Lancashire Life 8/1 could set the pace to the race and it does come out 2nd best on my figures but the jockey/trainer stats with 3yo’s at this course is poor which puts me off a little but it could possibly make the frame, Atrafan comes out 4th best on my figures with The Grey Bay sitting in 3rd top spot and both can either be held up for a late run or track the leaders and then stay on strongly at the finish so either of these two could also make the frame but I will be putting my faith in the top weight REDZONE 9/2 who likes to track the early pacemakers before staying on the stronger at the finish and stall 12 should be ideal but the trainers recent 0-16 means my stake will be kept low.

Redzone 9/2 1st +4.5pts

NEWCASTLE 6.45 Div II

In this race I will look to lay Barrington 9/1 if its a single figure price because I don't think this surface really suits it whereas if this race was on polytrack it would probably be the one I would be backing, I have just 3lbs between Hurstwood, Paddy Power and The Mackem Torpedo in 6th to 4th top spots on my figures, I've got joint 2nd top rated horses with Red Allure and Sleight, the former can be held up or track the leaders while the latter is usually held up for a late burst but I will be back the 3yo FIRCOMBE HALL 13/2 who has a time from 2020 which makes it my top rated by 9lb’s but I have to admit its not been at that level so far this year but did indicate it was coming to hand when finishing 2nd last time out and could go one better here.

2:15 Goodwood Racing Tips (29th August)

GOODWOOD 2.15

A nice looking 9 runner class 2 race but I'm not quite sure what will set the early pace so any stakes will be kept low, I would look to lay First Edition if its a single figure price as it might be too far for it if there is a strong early gallop but others might be able to stay on the stronger if the early pace is slow, I will go with backing both TINTO 12/1 and TREACHEROUS 3/1 who are my top rated pair but both using times from 2020 and the latter also comes out 3rd best on just 2021 times Tinto has the better jockey stats while Treacherous has the better trainer stats and I cannot split them so I'm hoping a win bet on the latter and an each way bet of the former will pay dividends.

BEVERLEY 4.50 Div I

This isn't a bad race for a class 6 affair and there is one known front runner in the race, I cannot find anything to lay in this race except for some forecast to be big prices horse, I've got Arnold as my 3rd top rated and this one is usually held up for a late run and could make the frame if running to its best, ORCHID ROSE 7/1 is my top rated on just 2021 times using a time recorded earlier this year at Ripon and my 2nd best rated on overall figures but the trainer is 1-13 at this course and the jockey is 1-21 for this stable which is a little off-putting and hasn't shown much time wise in its recent runs, the horse that could lead is ARCHIMEDES 33/1 (EW) and has a time from Bath last year that would make it my top rated but this years times have been nowhere near that level but has sprung back to form before without warning and if allowed an easy lead it could at least try to lead all the way and looking at the tissue prices it will be a big each way price.

BEVERLEY 5.20 Div II

This 2nd division also has just the one known front running type amongst them, I would look to lay Gorgeous General if the going is good to firm, the 3yo Zoom Star finished 2nd on good to firm going but in a slow run affair and that might have flattered it, while another 3yo the bottom weight Sheila's Legacy could prove better when raced over further but I am sceptical about laying 3yo’s unless I'm 100% certain they cannot win, if Newgate Angel can reproduce its best time from 2020 over this course and distance it could make the frame as that time would make it my 2nd top rated horse but my money will be riding on COOL SPIRIT 2/1 who recorded a time this year at Ripon that puts it at the top of my ratings but the trainers 0-4 this last 2 weeks doesn't inspire confidence so my stake wont be at full strength and at the price looks poor value but I cannot find anything to oppose it with.

1:45 Haydock Racing Tips & Lay Bets (25th June)

PLEASE READ

Today they get the going wrong again, neither Hamilton nor Haydock was good and good to soft in places which enforces why you should check the going with your own eyes before having a bet.

HAYDOCK 1.45

A very competitive class 2 sprint and i do hope the going is good or firmer, i will look to lay 3 horses that all might struggle to stay the distance if theres a fast early pace (*Camacho Chief + Top Breeze + Celsius) i would lay others but only if the going is good to firm, i will still have to dutch 3 runners in an attempt to find the winner, BURIDAN 10/1 (EW)  is my 3rd top rated but only 3lbs below my top rated and this one might be the one that sets the pace so worth an each way punt at the price, BARBILL 14/1 (EW) is 2nd top rated on my own unique speed figures, this one has good jockey stats with a 29% win rate on the stables older horses but the trainers record is 0-20 at this course with their older horses so not sure what to expect but again maybe worth an each way bet at the price, my top rated is *STAXTON 10/1 (EW) so another worth an each way wager who recorded a good time on its last run at Newmarket so even though it finished 7th it showed its in decent form, so i will be dutching the 3 selections with each way bets.

LEICESTER 4.55

If the going is good to firm then I would lay both Burtonwood and Atyaaf, Teepee Time is the likely pacesetter and my 3rd top rated and could do enough to make the frame, Qaaraat is my 2nd top-rated and this one has been running well of late without winning and I'm not sure its one to rely on with any certainty, the one I think is probably the value call is MONARCH MAID 7/1 who will be staying on strongly at the finish and hopefully strong enough to register the win.

Monarch Maid 9/1 5th (-1pts)

BATH 5.10

There's plenty of early pace on show in this dash but I think they will be setting the race up for a finishing type, maybe Coronation Cottage will do best of those at the head of affairs and could even stay long enough to make the frame, Essaka is my 2nd top-rated and will be staying on at the finish, I will be backing the topweight INDIAN SOUNDS 5/2 who finished 2nd last time out and this is a drop-in class and has what looks a positive jockey booking and it should be able to go one better here.

Indian Sounds 5/2 1st (+2.5pts)

LEICESTER 5.55

I will look to lay (Requinto Dawn) who can find this trip a bit too far for it, there is a niggle in this race with no known frontrunners but I guess something will change its usual tactics and go off from the front, Case Key is my 3rd top-rated and likes to track the leaders, Mutabaahy is my 2nd top-rated but this one is a hold-up type who likes to come with a late rattle but again my money will be riding on the topweight COOL SPIRIT 33/1 (EW) who has had a run this month to hopefully blow the cobwebs away and now dropped in class it can get back to winning ways and I am amazed at the price on offer so an each-way bet at such a big price.
